Renewable Geothermal Energy Geothermal Exploration
The Hu'u Project location not only holds mineral resources, but also has geothermal energy potential. STM is seeking to utilize this geothermal energy to power the future mining operation.
2018
In 2018, STM was granted the Geothermal Preliminary Exploration and Survey Assignment which enabled STM to conduct geothermal exploration. This area is estimated to up to 65 MWe of energy potential (ESDM, 2018).
2023 Fast forward to 2023, STM has completed the Geothermal Preliminary Exploration and Survey Assignment. Through this exploration activities, a geothermal reservoir was discovered with temperatures >160 degrees Celsius. This offers STM a potential clean, renewable and sustainable energy source.
Unlike fossil fuels, geothermal energy is renewable and emits minimal greenhouse gases. STM has drilled one well using the slim hole drilling method to confirm the presence of a geothermal reservoir.
This potential geothermal energy resource will be used by STM to support the company’s future mining operations.
